Yellowknife Houseboats – Escaping the Grid
Posted on 19. Jun, 2009 by Shane in Sightseeing, Yellowknife
Are you looking to live off the grid? Then look no further than the Yellowknife houseboats on Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories. These intrepid folks not only live off the grid but they have also floated away from the grid in the form of a houseboat. No property taxes, no loud traffic and best of all you get a 360 degree waterfront view every waking moment. Logistically, living on a houseboat is not easy here but the trade-offs can be more than worth it. There are probably a million and one other reasons why the Yellowknife houseboater’s live on the lake and I suspect there must be a feeling of being free and disconnected from society associated with living out on the lake. Coming from a coastal town I understand how large bodies of water can affect one’s psyche. Sometimes, the ocean (or lake) calls to you. Here are my pictures taken from the waterfront of the Old City on June 15.
