When in Yellowknife, GOLF or go to the Black Knight. Both are good options BUT one (meaning you) must really make an effort to visit the Yellowknife Golf Club. At first glance, you will discover that there is something distinctly unusual about the golf course (see the photos below). Even if you have never golfed in your life you may enjoy golfing here for the simple fact that you are ”golfing in Yellowknife”, in the sand, carrying turf grass around with you, drinking beer out of a can and discussing your truck repairs, buying that boat, the trip to Las Vegas or how bad the bug season is this year… did I mention the part about the fact you would be actually be “golfing in Yellowknife”? At the world famous home of the Midnight Sun Golf  Tournament?

Seriously, I never thought I would ever find myself golfing North of the 60th Parallel in Yellowknife. Actually, I never thought I would ever be golfing in my lifetime. But ‘life in the knife’ has a way of getting you doing things you never thought you would. The simple fact about life in Yellowknife  is that if someone else is doing it – they will surely invite you to do it too. And that person for me was my friend Ken! He showed me that anyone can golf and that the Yellowknife Golf Course was the best place to start learning… even if it took 7 or 8 or 9 tries to get that golf ball in those darn little holes at the other end. This trip to the Yellowknife Golf Course with the gang from work was a 20% improvement upon last years performance. I finished each hole in at least 6 swings of the golf club! 6 swings! Is that good?

In Yellowknife we golf in the sand and carry our grass around with us! Look at the proof! And you did not believe me – sheesh.

The Golf Master TEEING OFF! (Is it called teeing off?) You can learn a few things from this guy.

This is as green as the Yellowknife golf course gets.

Yellowknife Golf Club
Ok, it does get a little green around the holes.

This is the Dave I know I know, this is the Dave I know. (Kids in the Hall reference)

My Team – the Golf Bandit Squad. Alright, I just made that up.

I think I was humming the theme song to the movie “the Good, the Bad and the Ugly” in this scene. Curtis does remind me of Clint Eastwood.

Yellowknife Golf Club
I thought I would try intimidating the golf ball first… that way it will want to go farther.

Yellowknife Golf Club
Now I pretended that I was not paying attention to the golf ball so it would not suspect I was about to blast it into the heavens.

Yellowknife Golf Club
I will be the first to admit my golf ball did not make it past the first line of trees.

Golfing in Yellowknife is really a game of waiting for the people ahead of you and so on and so on…

Yellowknife Golf Club
Golfing in Yellowknife is a lot like golfing in a desert! With killer zombie flies! And giant mosquitos!

Yellowknife Golf Club
Say hello to your little friend. This is the little piece of turf grass that you carry with you!

The weapons of choice for the Golfing Warriors!

Yellowknife Golf Club Chariots (aka. Golf Carts).

Yellowknife Golf Club Outhouse
The first women’s outhouse. Men do not have an outhouse. Where do they go?

The 7th hole of the Yellowknife Golf Club. One of my favourites.

Yellowknife Linda knocking that golf ball to oblivion and back! Great shot!

The Master, Yellowknife Rick, at it again on the 7th hole (par 4). Note the turf on turf technique.

I had to share this photo of the remote outhouse on the 8th hole of the Yellowknife golf course. It really looks like a shack in the middle of nowhere. Like it was a bathroom meant for roaming bears not humans. I have images of that Charmin Toilet Paper commercial with the bears sitting against trees (using toilet paper) in my mind now.
