The Snowking Ice Castle in Yellowknife

(March 21, 2010) – The Snowking Winter Festival in Yellowknife is a month long event that offers music performances, multiple art shows, dances, weddings and a variety of other entertainments within a large Ice Castle built by the Kings crew. As I mentioned in the Snowking XV Winter Festival Opening Fireworks post the Ice Castle is “located out on Great Slave Lake”. Today I drove out on the lake for another visit to see how the Ice Castle was holding up (considering we have historically less cold weather this year). There were plenty of smiling people being entertained by the local Yellowknife band Peekaboo Kazoo and two performances by Snowking Children’s Theatre. The sun was high in the sky and it was quite warm in the Ice Castle – all-in-all a very nice day to be surrounded by music, theatre and thick ice… Click on the images below to enlarge the photos.

Great Photos, Shane. I think I just missed you down there. Actually I think you were taking to Brent as I left.

Thanks Kyle! It sure was a nice Sunday. Couldn’t be more perfect to be outside on the ice…
