The Road to Fiddler’s Lagoon

Tonight we rode the Fiddler’s Lagoon road all the way too — you guessed it — Fiddler’s Lagoon on the outskirts on Yellowknife (if indeed it is within the city limits). You can find the road we took at the end of Deh Cho Blvd. For those of you who do not know, Fiddler’s Lagoon (which is really a lake) is used to dump Yellowknife’s sewage, animal waste and honey pots. Honey pots are basically buckets of poop from those who live in houseboats. Along the road there is a sewage pipeline that pumps the sewage into the lake (aka. lagoon).
Anyway, poop aside, it is actually a nice 2 hour ride (there and back) with a few stops along the way to drink water and take a few pictures of your friends. It is actually a decent road to go birdwatching too. Here are some of my pictures.

David and Troy. David’s bike was broken so he had to use the old standby (with no suspension).

Troy viewing Fiddler’s Lagoon.

Troy looking into the black abyss known as Fiddler’s Lagoon.

David (aka. Dave) was investigating where the sewage pipline spewed forth. Note the gathering of seagulls.

By this time the Lagoon was really starting to smell. I just don’t know how Troy could eat at a time like this. Again note the gathering of seagulls

Dave discovered the source of the sewage pipeline. Hence the seagulls and the bubbling water.

Seagulls in action – snacking on whatever floated up. They are nature’s garbage disposers. Even the Ravens will not eat here. Gross!

ME and Troy. I think Troy was still chewing on his food. Whyyyyy?

It is a beautiful and peaceful scene. Just do not swim in it.
The End.

My Most Excellent Soninlaw, Troy, demonstrates his uncanny ability to overcome unpleasant conditions (our Coal Lake ride in a raging summer blizzard is a fine example) to see the wonders of the Natural World. This obviously includes Lumpy Lake, N.T., or is it PooPoo Pond, N.T.
