Google Street View Car Spotted in Yellowknife!

It is finally here! The Google Street View Car has been spotted in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada! The shiny little red Google (Chevy) car with the 360 degree view camera attached to the roof was discovered (by yours truly) parked along 49th street in downtown Yellowknife (more to read below).

What does the Google Street View mean for people wanting information about the city of Yellowknife?
To get that answer, the next time you login to Google Maps or Google Earth take a closer look at the major cities like Las Vegas, London and Vancouver and you will notice a little orange-yellow humanoid icon on the Map. Take a look at the example on the left.
When navigating Google Earth or Google Maps click on the little icon and drag & drop it onto the streets that are highlighted in yellow. You will then be automatically zoomed into Street View mode. That means you can be viewing the street like the view you would see while driving on it. We do not know when Google will activate Google Street View for Yellowknife but Click Here and try out Street View for yourself.
Please leave a comment below and let everyone know what you think about Google Street View hitting Yellowknife - i.e. Is it a good thing? Is it great for Yellowknife Tourism? Are you scared you will be photographed shopping when you should be at work? You tell us.

Hey Shane,
Love the site. Great job, especially the logo. Very unique. I see you’ve been quite busy posting lately.
Very cool that the Google cars are here in Yellowknife. Wonder when we’ll get to see the updated street views on Google Maps.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave!
Wow, thank you so much. I am really enjoying my Life in the Knife and posting this photo blog. I heard from a few media sources that we may get the Yellowknife Google Street View in as little as 4 to 5 months. I parked my truck across from the office – so it may end up in the view. I was hoping to stand out on the intersection and do a funny pose or hold up a sign… but I missed it by 2 minutes. *sigh*
Hope life is a slice!
Shane
p.s. Get that Boat already.
