The 2010 Olympic Torch came to Yellowknife on November 5th for the northern leg of its cross-Canada journey leading up to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver & Whistler, BC, Canada. The Olympic Torch Ceremony took place at the City of Yellowknife’s Sombe Ke Park, which is located in downtown Yellowknife. The ceremony included snacks provided by local restaurant/cafe vendors, performances by local bands, opportunities to get your photo taken with a large Coke bottle and/or an imitation olympic torch, a big performance by the Yellowknife Choral Society (shown below) and the official Torch presentation. Here are some photos of the event. Click on the images to enlarge the photos.

I’m a little confused by the giant coke bottle. Is there some symbolism or is it purely a consuming tactic?

I believe Coca Cola owns the Torch Relay… or bought the entire sponsorship rights for it.
