In Yellowknife, when someone says they are going to the pub, 9 times out of 10, they are talking about the Black Knight Pub. The Black Knight Pub offers the most authentic Scottish and Irish pub-style experience in Yellowknife. The moment you walk in the door you are greeted with a warm atmosphere of familiar faces and you immediately feel right at home admidst the dark wood paneling, the coats of arms, the knights in shining armour and the comfortable seating areas. Even if it is your first visit you get the sense you have been there before.

The Black Knight Pub is a hub for downtown lunch gatherings, an essential stop for people visiting Yellowknife and a great place to meet friends after work for good coversation over drinks poured from the tap. The Black Knight also hosts a great pub-style menu featuring burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, pastas and daily specials. The bar has a variety of beers on tap and an assortment of liqours to fit any mood. And for only $12.95 to $14.95 you can get one of the best burgers in Yellowknife and overall one of the best bangs for the buck too. See my pictures below. Click on the images to enlarge the photos.

MY RATING: 4 pints out of 5 overall

PRICE RANGE: Highly affordable from $5.95 to $18.95 per dish. Accepts cash, debit card, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

AVERAGE FOOD DELIVERY TIME: 10-20 minutes (varies at different times of day)

ATMOSPHERE: Scottish and Irish pub style with extra friendly service with big smiles. The music is most often a combination of folk, country, Celtic, Canadiana and classic rock.

HOURS OF OPERATION: Daily lunch and evening service.

LOCATION: 4910 – 49th Street in downtown Yellowknife, NT X1A 1P3, Canada - Phone: (867) 920-4041.

I have only been in Yellowknife 3 weeks, but I have to say that this is a pub to avoid. I have get a per diem while I am there and I have spent it in the black Knight a few times and I will never do it again.

I was there twice for Pasta night and both time the pasta was under cooked and the sauce cold.

I mentioned it a few times and the staff’s attitude was “welcome to the north” – A cop out if I ever heard one.

I can name 3 places right now that are better.

As for the review.. I liked it, and the wonderful photos were lovely.

Hi Cranky, thank you for your comment.

I did have pasta once at the Black Knight and had a similar experience as you. After having been disappointed with pasta several times at various other pubs too I have learned never to order pasta from any pub ever again. Pasta and pubs never go together and should never go together. The Black Knight is really known for its burgers, wings, suds and sandwiches and I prefer the cooking of the evening food service more than the cooking of the lunch food service as it seems like they are not in much of a rush. Perhaps, the food service is so fast paced at certain times with their traditional menu items that pasta (rarely ordered) just does not get the close attention it deserves. Pasta cools fast and you have to boil it just right. I would stick to the grill and deep fryer :) All in all, the bang for the buck is still one of the best.

Thank you again for commenting. I appreciate it.

I am homesick for YK just looking at the pictures. The Black Knight has the best burgers not just in Yellowknife, but anywhere I have ever eaten. I’ve travelled quite a bit and that’s always my go-to in an unfamiliar place, but the Knight wins.

Also, Strongbow on tap doesn’t hurt a bit, either. I have found only one place in town (Baltimore) that sells it, and it’s bottled.

I will second (or even third) the comment about the burgers. I have not had a better burger in any of the cities I’ve lived or visited. If nothing else, wing night and Saturday night are the best at the BK!

Moving up to Yellowknife in about two weeks, I’ve already been working up there but the family will all be coming at the beginning of May. Had a burger at the Black Knight, and I agree it was awesome, but not the best I’ve ever had. That title goes to another restaurant I ate at, right in Yellowknife too! The name escapes me, but it was bison and by far the best burger I’ve ever had. My wife however, had a chicken breast snadwich at the Knight, and she said it was the best she’s ever had, so go figure. Two thumbs up to the Knight for having REAL FRIES. Nothing worse than paying 20 bucks for a burger and FROZEN fries….

Can’t wait to get back up there in two weeks! Now if I can only find a place to live!
