National Aboriginal Day 2009 in Yellowknife
Posted on 21. Jun, 2009 by Shane in Events, National Aboriginal Day, Sightseeing, Yellowknife
If you were out and about in Yellowknife today (June 21st) you would have noticed many Yellowknifer’s and people from around the Territories celebrating and participating in National Aboriginal Day. National Aboriginal Day is a celebration recognizing First Nations’ contributions to Canadian society. This years celebration of Aboriginal Day took place at the McNiven Beach parking lot – across the road from the CBC building.
I spent a few hours blending in with the crowd, taking in the aboriginal entertainment and mostly people watching. It seemed like half of Yellowknife was on hand for the event including Member of Parliament Dennis Bevington and an assortment of other recognizable locals. Here are some pictures from the event.

MMMmmm BBQ hot dogs and burgers. Nothing like getting a nitrate buzz on a hot summer day.

The most popular person at the National Aboriginal Day in Yellowknife! People were literrally following this aboriginal dancer (wearing traditional costume) with their cameras the whole day.

Member of Parliament Dennis Bevington chatting it up with a Yellowknifer. I think the guy on the right was talking about the ‘really’ big fish he caught.
