Mountain Biking Yellowknife’s Latham Island, the Old Town and N’dilo

Despite cool winds and the beginning of the monster bug season – there is no better way than to see Yellowknife then to go mountain biking in Yellowknife. Therefore Troy, Dave and I decided to make (what was) a 2 hour mountain biking trip through the oldest part of Yellowknife. We visited Yellowknife’s Latham Island, the Old Town and N’dilo.
Latham Island is located on a pennisula that pokes out into Yellowknife Bay – which is connected to Great Slave Lake. Latham Island is about a 5 minute drive from downtown Yellowknife. The Old City is located inbetween Latham Island and downtown Yellowknife. Most of Yellowknife’s original homes were built in old town and Latham Island when the gold rush began here. Some of the original homes, miner shacks and cabins still exist there. N’Dilo, according to the northernfrontier.com website, “is a small Dene community located just outside of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. N’Dilo is on the tip of Latham Island. It has a population of approximately 200 people (as of 2009).”

Taking advantage of the situation, I knew riding over Troy would be fun.

Look what we found in N’Dilo! Some kind of Truck Tank Thing. What do you call this?

Apparently dogs know how to climb. Check out this dog who lives on the roof of this Latham Island Home. He is there every day.
