Live Robin’s Nest Cam in Yellowknife!
Posted on 13. Jun, 2010 by Shane in Animals & Wildlife, Sightseeing
It was May 29 when we discovered the little American Robin’s Nest under our deck in Yellowknife. At first we thought it was just an empty nest. But after closer inspection we discovered three (3) blue eggs. From that point on we have halted our plans to renovate the backyard until the chicks have fledged and flown away.
On June 8, after arriving home from work, Shane discovered that one of the chicks hatched! That was when we decided to rig up Shane’s Loigtech Quickcam Pro 9000 webcam using duct tape, USB extension cable and a couple screws to share the experience with the world. On June 9, the next morning, we watched the second chick hatch live with other viewers. You could not imagine a cuter experience – poking its head through like it was a Disney cartoon.
The robin’s names are:
Mom: Rosie
Dad: Sir Chirps A-Lot
Hatchling #1: Peep (hatched June 8, 2010)
Hatchling #2: Cheep (hatched June 9, 2010)
*The third egg has not hatched and was probably not fertilized. Below are some of the photos that capture the Robin’s nest from June 8 to June 13. Click on the images below the video to enlarge the photos.
