Escape to Las Vegas Part 3: The Grand Canyon Tour
Posted on 30. Nov, 2009 by Shane in Everything Else, Traveling
There are many destinations on my things to do before I die list. And one of them ‘was’ to experience the mighty Grand Canyon in Arizona, United States - which is one of the natural wonders of the world. Having only seen the Grand Canyon in movies and in pictures I could not imagine how big it was going to be. Was I in for a surprise.
On my recent escape to Las Vegas I decided the Grand Canyon was a MUST DO – at any cost – so we chose Maverick Helicopter Tours to take us there. The trip began with a one hour airplane flight to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon – where the canyon is at one of its widest and deepest points. After we landed we were surprised at how cold it was. The thermometre read -7 degrees Celcius – which (as it turns out) is a normal temperature for November because we were 7,000 feet above sea level.
Immediately, we were taken to a waiting helicopter and flown into the Grand Canyon for a spectacular canyon ride. The canyon is massive when you see it up close – especially when you are looking at it below your feet. Afterwards, we hopped on a bus tour which took us to two different locations where we could walk around, hike some trails and take pictures. We spent about 6-7 hours at the canyon, which did not seem like enough, so we may see it again one day. Have a look at our pictures below. Click on the images to enlarge the photos.
