Escape to Las Vegas Part 1: The Strip

Need to escape Yellowknife? When living in Yellowknife – or in the far north – the feeling of isolation tends to encourage the escape mentality more than those people living in populated areas down south (where access to everything and anything is as simple as hopping into a car for a quick road trip to the next town or simply walking down the street). Obviously, northerners do not have the same access to everything and anything so northerner’s do the next best thing – PLAN FOR BIG ESCAPES.
The most common escapes for Yellowknifer’s include the usual weekend flights to the West Edmonton Mall, beach vacations in Hawaii, crusies in the Carribean and that essential trip to Las Vegas… sometimes more than once (per year). And chances are, which ever destination you choose, bumping into another Yellowknifer escapist will happen more often than not. Sound familiar? Here is the first series of photos from ‘our’ latest escape to Las Vegas (p.s. we encountered Yellowknifer’s there – again). Click on the images to enlarge the photos.

It was great. Packed in a lot of shows, shopping, sightseeing and touring over those few days.

Your camera gets the most amazing shots, everything is so clear and focused! That might also be the photographers doing as well but it really helps to show some of the beauty that exists in Las Vegas…surprisingly so.

Great photos of Las Vegas and the Canyon! My husband and I are going there between Christmas and New Year’s Eve for our honeymoon! You should make a top 10 list of the must-sees around the Strip!
And you made me consider the option of flying in an helicopter above the Great Canyon! Interesting idea, thanks for sharing!

Thanks EMMA! You are going to love the Grand Canyon should you visit. Make sure you go with a decent travel outfit because some of them are not very good. Most people in Vegas will usually know who is great. Maverick was recommended to us be several different people including SkyDiveLasVegas, the MGM Grand, several cab drivers and people we met. Pay the extra dollars to see the best part of the Canyon was totally worth it.
The canyon will be cold at Christmas though and could have snow so dress warm. Otherwise, if you want to see it in its hot dry sunny glory then wait until May-June.
Have a wonderful trip and thanks for stopping by the website.
