Posted on 20. Mar, 2010 by Shane in Dog Sledding, Events, Festivals
On March 19 – a Dog Sledding race helped kick off the first day of the Caribou Carnival that has been held in Yellowknife every March or April since 1955. According to the Caribou Carnival website the event began as “an annual gathering of trappers” who competed to be crowned the “Bush King” – which was a the man who proved to be the strongest and best at surviving the North. Over the years, the annual carnival has evolved into an event with various other activities such as Dog Sledding. On this day, approximately 200 people attended the Dog Sledding race and afterwards headed up to one of the food tents providing food from local vendors.
Check out my Dog Sledding photos below. You can find pictures of Yellowknife Mayor Gordan Van Tighem and Member of Parliament Dennis Bevington chatting it up with other Yellowknifers too. Click on the images to enlarge the photos.
