Cameron Falls Hike, NWT
Posted on 27. Apr, 2008 by Shane in Hiking Trips, Sightseeing
This was a great day for hiking. Even though there was still snow on the ground and the rivers and lakes were mostly frozen the hike to Cameron Falls was perfect. Not to mention, there were no bugs out yet – which is why we choose to hike now instead of later. Our supplies included light jackets and fleece, hiking shoes, warm hats, sunglasses, 2 water bottles, a small lunch, a camera and gloves.

A small Marten we met along the way. According to the Government of the Northwest Territories website the marten (Martes americana) are part of the same fur bearing family as wolverines, fishers and weasels. They are only found on the North American continent “and range as far North as the treeline”. According to the Wikipedia.com website the marten generally feeds on a diet of “squirrels, rabbits, birds, mice, fish, insects, and eggs, and they will also eat fruit and nuts when these are available. They are solitary animals, meeting only to breed in late spring or early summer.”

The Rocky Home of the Marten. You can see it near the middle of the photo.

The rocks are very interesting here.

There is always an Inukshuk wherever you are in the NWT.

The top of the stairway leading to the bottom of a valley.

The mainly frozen Cameron Falls seen from high above a cliff.

Petra waiting patiently for me to take my pictures.

Another view of the mostly frozen Cameron Falls from the cliff view.

A zoomed in view of the Stairway from the other size of the valley.

Petra almost slipping on the hike back to the truck.

Back up the stairway! Going up is never as much fun as going down.
