A view from Pilot’s Monument in Yellowknife

When nearing the end of summer in Yellowknife – finding ways to enjoy the last bits and pieces of the sun can become an obsession. So today I decided to mountain bike over to the Pilot’s Monument in Yellowknife to spend an hour soaking up the remaining summer sun and enjoy the great panoramic views. The Pilot’s Monument has one of the quintessential views of Great Slave Lake, Yellowknife Bay, Yellowknife’s downtown skyline, Latham Island and the Old City – all from one point.
The Pilots Monument is dedicated to the aviators who flew small bush planes in the 1920′s and 1930′s, which opened up the North. These aviators were pioneers who faced dangerous challenges including frigid temperatures, harsh conditions and extreme distances just to deliver freight, passengers and mail. Check out the view from Pilot’s Monument in my photos below and please feel free to leave a comment too!

My sister got married at the top of Pilot’s Monument in 1993. I miss the beauty of YK. After living in the US for so long (7 years) it was really odd to be back. I doubt I could live up there again.
