A Moon Dog Over Yellowknife
Posted on 14. Jan, 2010 by Shane in Natural Wonders, Sightseeing
Here is a photo of a Moon Dog over Yellowknife I had taken on New Years Eve. According to the Wikipedia.org website a moon dog “is a relatively rare bright circular spot on a lunar halo caused by the refraction of moonlight by hexagonal-plate-shaped ice crystals in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds”. This was a perfect natural wonder in the sky to reign in 2010! And as far as I am concerned this moon dog was a sign that 2010 is going to be full of good luck, interesting moments and positive change. Click on the image below to enlarge the photo.

Great picture. It was also a blue moon, second full moon in the month of December; rare spectacle indeed!

Thanks Gordon!
I forgot about it being a Blue Moon and that it was the 2nd FULL moon of the month. That makes it triple cool now.

Your moon pic is really great. I had seen the moon but didn’t see the dog. Thanks for doing the pics I haven’t seen the moon dog in sooooo long. It’s sooo lovely.
