3 Across Dee Eye Performs at Le Frolic in Yellowknife

One of my favorite bands, 3 Across Dee Eye, performed at the Le Frolic restaurant in Yellowknife on Saturday, November 28, 2009. The music was excellent, the musicians showed a lot of passion and I found myself feeling inspired by their performance. My first thought upon hearing 3 Across Dee Eye the first time (back in 2008) was something like “I have never heard anything like this before” and “these guys are musical genious’ who can connect with souls” – and possibly read minds. They could be wizards in disguise really.
The band is made up of four musical talents: David Dowe, Stephen Richardson, Paul McGrath and Nathan McGrath. The band members often switch up instruments showing their multi-instrumental skills – which makes for a very interesting show. I would describe much of their music as melodic sound experiments (often rhythmic ambient in quality) with guitars, guitar pedals, EFX/loops, a drum kit, a mandolin, an African djembe, Puerto Rican cajones, keyboards, harmonicas and hauntingly unique voices. There is also a deep poetic type of storytelling behind their lyrics and a fun not-so-serious side that appears in-between. You can listen to their music online at their MySpace page: www.myspace.com/3acrossdeeeye. Here are some of the pictures I captured of the event. Click on the images to enlarge the photos.
