The 2nd Annual Aurora Arts Society Art Expo in Yellowknife

The weekend of November 21-22 included the 2nd annual Aurora Arts Society’s ARTS EXPO in Yellowknife. There was quite a selection of high-end visual and wearable art available including paintings, jewelry, baskets, cards, pottery and more. The Aurora Art’s Society comprises of many locally known artists - some of whom were represented at the ART Expo. A few of the artists I spoke with or viewed included the paintings of Jennifer Walden & Ann Timmins, the glassware art of Northern Lights Glassware (Whitney Jason, Matthew Grogonom and Sophie Grogonon), the jewelry designs of Naimo Lewsaw, the sculpture and paintings of Monique Robert, the art of Inemesit Essien Graham, the card art of Caitlin J. Lacey, the printmaking of Rae Braden, the ceramic art of Astrid Kruse, the bone jewelry of Art Au Fax, the basket art of Cathie Harper and much more.

According to the Aurora Art’s Society’s website, the Art Society’s philosophy is to “[...] recognize the important role that Arts, Culture and Heritage play in the lives of individuals at all stages of their lives and is dedicated to promoting Music, Culture, Arts, Crafts, Fine Arts, Theatre, Media, and Literature in the North for the benefit of All.” If you are interested in participating, the society holds regular socials and events throughout the year.
